Slow Food USA

Posted on: September 18, 2011

After watching Food Inc, I became more interested in the local, sustainable food movement. At times it’s hard to follow because sometimes you really just want some strawberries or watermelon when they are out of season. But, I really think it’s important that we know where our food came from and how it was raised. It really makes a difference. Even if you don’t agree, watch Food Inc. it is an incredibly interesting documentary.

Yesterday, despite the fact it was our anniversary, Dave and I took Slow Food USA’s $5 challenge, where you agree to make a dinner that is $5 or less per person instead of going out for fast food. Even though I’m positive our dinner was more expensive than that at least we felt good knowing we were sharing a home-cooked meal that was good for us. It was also the most romantic dinner I’ve ever had.

Check out Slow Food USA’s $5 challenge and see if there is a local chapter near you: Slow Food USA.
